Developed in honor of the Bauhaus design school's 100th anniversary, Heddle is a modern, woven floor mat that explores the dynamic relationship between weaving techniques and color. Featuring striking areas of floating yarns contrasted by subtle stripes in its flat-woven fields, this unbacked mat boasts approximately 50% more yarns than our signature Basketweave for added durability and texture. Its name is derived from the essential element of the loom used in its creation - the heddle, which meticulously threads each warp yarn through its eye, similar to a sewing needle. With the flexibility to transition between indoor and outdoor spaces, Heddle is proudly made in the USA with TerraStrand® and Microban®, and finished with self-bound edges. Guaranteed free of phthalates.

Best suited to dry surfaces. Vacuum or mop face to clean. Air dry thoroughly. Occasionally lift and air out.

How to Clean Your Chilewich Textiles During this time of heightened health and safety precautions, we're receiving a high volume of inquiries about optimal cleaning methods.⁣⁣ Chilewich products have always been distinguished by their easy maintenance, but did you know they're also bleach-cleanable and antimicrobial? Here are key questions and answers: Can I sanitize/disinfect my Chilewich products?⁣⁣
Yes. For all woven products (except printed designs) and all tufted (Shag) mats: A 50:1 water/bleach solution left on the surface for at least one minute will thoroughly clean and disinfect the material. A stronger solution can be used if desired. ⁣For all printed, metallic, and pressed table mats (including Glow, Lace, and John Derian + Chilewich): Use hydrogen peroxide. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Is there a bleach-free way to sanitize/disinfect my Chilewich woven or tufted (Shag) products?⁣⁣
Yes. Hydrogen peroxide may be used in place of bleach.⁣⁣

Are Chilewich products antimicrobial?⁣⁣
Yes. Antimicrobial protection (Microban) is built into all of our yarns at the polymer level. ⁣⁣Microban technology gives Chilewich products an added level of protection against stain- and odor-causing bacteria, mold and mildew. Antimicrobial protection not only reduces the risk of premature product degradation but also makes our products easier to clean and keeps them cleaner and fresher between cleanings. I have had my Chilewich product for 10+ years. Is it still antimicrobial?⁣⁣
Yes. Because it is integrated into the yarns and not applied as a surface finish, the antimicrobial protection works continuously for the lifetime of the product.⁣⁣
Shag Floor Mats:
PLEASE FOLLOW THESE EASY CARE INSTRUCTIONS TO MAINTAIN YOUR NEW SHAG INDOOR/OUTDOOR MAT.

  • Vacuum, shake out or hose off with water to clean.
  • Hang to dry.
  • Good in all weather.
  • Quick to dry.
  • Mold, mildew and chlorine resistant.
  • Do not lay on top of rubber floor or place objects made of rubber on top of the mat.

Discoloration of the mat or floor may occur. We recommend that you occasionally lift, move and air out your shag mat. Although our shag mats are mold-resistant, the flooring underneath them may not be.
Woven Floor Mats:
PLEASE FOLLOW THESE CARE INSTRUCTIONS FOR MAINTAINING YOUR NEW FLOORMAT:
Chilewich floormats are very durable and maintain their look over long periods of time.
INDOOR USE:

  • Do not iron.
  • Do not machine wash.
  • Do not use Acetone, Pine-Sol, or citrus-based cleaners as they can damage or discolor the Chilewich products.
  • Avoid use of rubber castors or placing objects made of rubber on the woven floormat; discoloration will occur.
  • May be used on radiant heated floors provided the temperature does not exceed 85°F/30°C.
  • When moving or storing, roll up your mat with weave facing outward.
  • Spot cleaning: Vacuum to remove loose dirt. If necessary, follow up with a residential carpet cleaner or wet mop the surface.
  • Lift the mat off the floor and allow face and backing to air dry completely before placing the mat on the floor again.
  • Blot spills quickly with a lint-free cloth.
  • Deep cleaning: Use a carpet cleaning machine that scrubs the surface of the floormat and simultaneously vacuums away the soiled water and detergent.
  • Lift the mat off the floor and allow face and backing to air dry completely before placing the mat on the floor again.
  • We recommend that you occasionally lift and air out your woven floormat, which will allow both your mat and the flooring surface to ventilate and stay dry.
  • When placed atop a textured surface, the latex backing of your mat may become abraded. This will not affect the woven face of the mat or its performance.
  • A rug pad may be used to prevent this issue.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR OUTDOOR USE:

  • Chilewich woven mats can be used outdoors and will perform well with proper maintenance.
  • Best suited on dry surfaces.
  • As with indoor use, make sure to air out the mat occasionally by turning it over.
  • All Chilewich mats are made with the latest color technology to prevent fading. But, like all textiles, the mats may fade when placed in full sun for protracted periods.
  • When placed atop a textured surface, the latex backing of your mat may become abraded. This will not affect the woven face of the mat or its performance.
  • A rug pad may be used to prevent this issue.

Placemats and Runners:

  • All Chilewich placemats should be stored flat.
  • Do not fold placemats or allow them to crease.
  • Hot objects may damage your placemat/runner.
  • Please exercise caution and use a trivet to protect your placemat/runner from excessive heat.

  • To clean, simply wipe with soap, water and a soft sponge or cloth.
  • Standard antibacterial cleanser can also be used.
  • Rinse with clean water and air dry.
  • Scrub stubborn stains with a soft bristle-brush and a bleach-based cleanser.
  • This will remove the stain without altering the fabric.
  • Rinse with clean water and air dry.
  • Machine washing or dishwasher use is not recommended.
  • More permanent stains may result when certain foods or liquids (e.g. tomato, hot pepper sauce, turmeric) are left on the placemat or runner for long periods before cleaning.
  • This is more likely to occur with lighter-color textiles.
  • Make sure to remove such spills quickly.
